Water Leaders’ Round Table (WLRT) aims to be the initiative of the high-level commitment and actions based on practical and tangible plans for resolving water problems.
In 2022, opinions were collected from 19 high-level attendees, and the Leaders’ Round Table implementation declaration was adopted. Additionally, confirmation and discussion were conducted on the 5 Focus Areas for the 3-year(2019-2022) KIWW major theme ‘Sustainable water management for humans and nature’.
World Water Partnership is a cooperative gathering that brings together key high-level representatives from the World Water Forum host countries and the steering committee of the next WWF host country. Following discussions between the previous and upcoming World Water Forum hosting organizations, it was decided to support the discussion process for the next two years and designate a secretariat (Korea Water Forum) to coordinate specific activities to provide guidance to the World Water Forum.
World Water Cities’ Forum 2022 served as an exclusive platform for city leaders and water experts to discuss water-related issues and solutions for each city, and to share best practices and policies related to water management. Roundtable discussions on city water management, digital water management, and securing water resources were organized.
TIP Platform is designed to lead implementation based on developed polices and technologies. TIP Platform aims to promote sharing knowledge and experiences on practical solutions for global water challenges at various scales.
11 sessions under the five focus areas(Smart Water Management, Water Recycling and Reuse, Water for Socio-economic Development, Water Governance and Partnership, Water ODA) were organized by 21 domestic and international organizations.(120 participants)
The World Water Challenge is an international contest hosted by the Ministry of Environment of Korea and organized by Korea Water Forum for water solutions. As a follow-up activity of the 7th World Water Forum in 2015, it has been annually held in conjunction with the Korea International Water Week (KIWW), aiming to discover imminent global water issues and to find feasible solutions to them.
The Best solution awarded was the “Micro solar desalinator, easily producible in underdeveloped countries”

During the Water Business Forum 15 domestic and foreign water industry experts from 6 countries, we shared insights on water issues, technologies and experiences, and information on financing and projects from multilateral development banks.
Additionally, we established a role as a gateway for water companies to expand into overseas markets through Water Partner Square (B2G, B2B matching meeting) and water industry conferences. This event promoted exchanges between industry stakeholders and provided a stepping stone for future business contracts. (60 consultations, amounting to 4 billion KRW)
Water Culture and Citizen Forum is an open platform organized by NGOs and local communities to provide a venue for communication and discussion, encouraging citizens’ participation and action on water challenges.
Korea Junior Water Prize(KJWP), held annually since 2009, is a national competition aimed at promoting youth to develop their research abilities by proposing creative, innovative, and practical approaches to solving regional and international water problems.
Out of 37 teams 14 teams were selected through the preliminary round to the final competitions. Seven finalists were given awards including team Terracis, which won the best prize(Prime Minister of Republic of Korea’s Award) for their innovative project ‘Eco-friendly Crop Development using Synergy Effect between Ground Water-derived Minerals & PGPR.” Terracis team will have the privilege of participating in the international competition (2023 Stockholm Junior Water Prize) as the Korean representative.
