Session Introduction

The proposed session will highlight the Jordan case in water recycling and reuse as a unique experience in the MENA region. Jordan is considered as scarce water country and classified per the international organizations as one of the poor countries in water. In addition to the water shortage the country facing two main challenges related to the influx of refugees due to instability in the region and climate change. Both challenges are increasing the pressure on the conventional water sources. In this context, the session will present Jordan experience in considering the water recycling and reuse which classified as non-conventional sources to become conventional ones in Jordan case. This unique experience in utilizing every drop of recycled water in reuse merging between traditional ways and latest technology. The session will have 10 min film on Jordan water and reuse situation followed by three presentations covering the following areas;

  • Jordan water recycling and reuse strategy the way from non-conventional to conventional sources
  • Waste water reuse as sustainable source of livelihood for communities in the rural areas; the Case of Petra treatment plant
  • Use of latest technology in greywater in rural areas as source of water supply
